Cambodian NA President Holds Bilateral Talks with Lao NA President
(Australia): Cambodia’s National Assembly President Heng Samrin has led a delegation to attend the 28th Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Meeting (APPF) in Canberra, Australia. During his visit, he met the National Assembly President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Phany Yatoulu.
The two heads of state expressed their support for the two countries’ cooperation in recent years. Particularly, they focused on the result of the recent visit of the Lao Prime Minister to Cambodia which provided benefits to both countries and peoples.
For the previous visit, Cambodian and Laos Prime Ministers have agreed to promote comprehensive, long-term strategic partnership in politics, security, economy and socio-cultural affairs which would bring better cooperation between two countries.
Heng Samrin informed his Lao counterpart that the National Assembly had recently approved a plan to purchase electricity from Laos with a 2,400 MW of coal-fired power plant. The project is necessary for economic and social development in both countries.
On the other hand, the National Assembly President of Laos requested the Cambodian President of the National Assembly to further enhance relationship and cooperation between the two countries, in particular the exchange of experiences between the two parliaments.
In the meantime, he invited the President of the Lao National Assembly to pay an official visit to Cambodia. He also invited her excellency to attend the 11th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting which will be hosted by the Cambodian National Assembly in October 2020. In response, the President of the Lao National Assembly accepted this invitation and will visit Cambodia this year.
