Kem Sokha Demands Court to Drop Charges for Him to Exercise Political Liberty
(Phnom Penh): Following this morning’s hearing, Kem Sokha insisted that he is innocent and demanded the court to drop all charges against him so that he could freely exercise political freedom.
Mot Chantha, Director of Kem Sokha’s Office, disseminated his message as follows:
“I fully reject accusations against me of conspiracy with foreign countries. I did not bring in foreign states or foreign agents to attack or invade the Kingdom of Cambodia. I had not acted as accused or in any way that would be detrimental to the national interest. All my activities were focused on human rights and democracy in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia.”
“All my political activities were focused on free and fair elections that reflect the will of the Cambodian people. I still demand that the court permanently drop charges against me so that I can exercise full political liberty to serve the motherland and protect the interests of the Cambodian people.”
It should be reminded that on Wednesday morning, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court began the hearing of former CNRP president Kem Sokha who is accused of “conspiracy with foreign countries”. The hearing is scheduled for two days on January 15-16, 2020.
