PM Hun Sen Reaffirms to Remain in Office for 10 More Years and No Power Transfer to His Son

(Phnom Penh): During an annual meeting with journalists, Prime Minister Hun Sen made it clear that he will remain in the office for at least 10 more years through elections and he reassured that there will be no power transfer from him to his son, Hun Manet, as mentioned by some people which is entirely groundless.

“Behind Hun Sen is Hun Sen,” the Prime Minister said. “If Manet is qualified, he will have to wait for another 10 years. We are a democratic country, not a country that transfers power from father to son, as some countries do. We have to go through elections.”

Prime Minister Hun Sen made the comment while presiding over the annual meeting with journalists on Tuesday evening, January 14, 2020 with participation of nearly 5,000 journalists at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Center, hosted by the Ministry of Information.

This is the 4th meeting between the Prime Minister and journalists which a significant forum to listen and provide feedback, and to strengthen solidarity and cooperation in the field of media.
