Foreign Affairs Ministry Expresses Strong Dismay Over Arbitrary Designation of Two Cambodian Nationals Under Global Magnitsky Act
(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement today December 10 to express its strong dismay over the arbitrary designation of Cambodian nationals working in both public and private sector under Global Magnitsky Act.
It is very disturbing when public figures of a country have become subjects of punitive measures of another country base on groundless accounts and accusations, the statement read, adding that this is a serious violation of the international principle of sovereign equality and non-interference in the domestic affairs of the states.
The statement continued that the executive order is an ambush against the ongoing efforts to restore trust and confidence between Cambodia and the United State as reflected in the recent two-year communication between Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen and US President Donald Trump.
Kun Kim is well known for his great contributions to the protection and the maintenance of peace, stability and social order while Try Pheap has played an active role in supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development.
