Nearly 1,000 Volunteers to Participate in Cleaning Activities during Water Festival
(Phnom Penh): It was announced at the Environmental Convention and Exhibition held on Sunday that nearly 1,000 volunteers will participate in cleaning activities on the occasion of Water Festival which will be organized in Phnom Penh from November 10-12, 2019.
According to the report, more than 10,000 tonnes of garbage are generated in Cambodia, and the volume of rubbish that Cambodia produces is nearly 4 million tonnes per year. The city and provinces that produce the most trash are: Phnom Penh (about 700 tons/day), Sihanoukville (about 700 tons/day) and Siem Reap (about 400 tons/day).
It was estimated that the percentage of plastic waste collected through street clearance in three cities are 17.3% in Phnom Penh, 20.7% in Siem Reap and 34% in Sihanoukville. On average, garbage grows around 10% per year.
