PM Hun Sen Recalls His Economic Reform Years Back Then Was Perilous as Internal Forces Lacked Understanding
(Phnom Penh): Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen recalled that his reform was extremely perilous as the internal forces could not comprehend its significance and did not fully support.
The Premier, on Thursday morning, October 10, spoke while presiding over the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the restoration of the National Bank of Cambodia (October 10, 1979-October 10, 2019) held at Phnom Penh’s Chaktomuk Conference Hall.
He stated that late Senate President Chea Sim, National Assembly President Heng Samrin and Say Phouthang supported his economic reform at the time as they realized that it was an important matter for the survival of the nation.
The decision to reform luckily was not opposed by friendly countries such as Russia and Vietnam; otherwise, he could not transform the country from a planned economy into a free-market economy, he added.
