New Minimum Wage to be Finalized in Tomorrow’s Talks
(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training announced that the final tripartite meeting on minimum wage 2020 for employees in the garment and footwear industry will take place tomorrow Friday, September 20, 2019.
The representative of employers proposed next year’s minimum wage at $186, the representative of employees at $195 and the government at $187, according to the latest figures during a negotiation in the afternoon of September 19.
The Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, Dr. Ith Samheng, urged to finalize the new minimum wage for garment workers before the last three days of Pchum Ben.
It is worth mentioning that the minimum wage for workers this year stands at $182 per month, excluding other bonuses. The new agreed minimum wage will be implemented for all workers on January 1, 2020.
