Chuop Samlap Appeals To Appeal Court on Thursday
(Phnom Penh): Chuop Samlap has appealed the Court of Appeal on Thursday after he was convicted by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on March 23, 2017 of allegedly murdered political analyst Kem Ley in Phnom Penh last year, Mr. Samlap’s lawyer Yung Phanith said on Friday.
Mr Phanith told Swift News that his client Oeuth Ang called Chuop Samlap has appealed to the Appeal Court on Thursday, April 20, 2017 because it is such a serious sentence which makes him unable to correct himself. He appealed because he wanted the Appeal Court to reduce his sentence.
Chuop Samlap provided a testimony that he shot dead Kem Ley because Kem Ley borrowed him money and refused to pay him back in the courtroom on March 1, 2017.
Chuop Samlap, 38 was arrested immediately after he shot dead Mr Kem Ley at a Caltex Gas Station in Chamkarmorn district on July 10, 2016 and then the Municipal Court charged him with two counts, premeditated murder and illegal weapon possession.
