(Phnom Penh): Chairman and Publisher of Post Media Ltd today announced new ownership of the Post after the company was sold to Sivakumar G. (Siva), a Malaysian investor.
Huy Vannak, President of the Union of Journalist Federations of Cambodia (UJFC), stated, “this is not the first time that the Phnom Penh Post has changed its ownership and shareholder. It is a normal business, and it remains a newspaper.”
“The existence of the newspaper shows the wider space of freedom of expression and I am glad that the staff can secure their job and can continue to use their professionalism as journalists to contribute strengthening positive thinking and the development in Cambodia,” he asserted.
On 5 May 2018, Bill Clough, Chairman and Publisher of Post Media Ltd, publisher of the Phnom Penh Post, announced the new owner of the Post, Sivakumar G. (Siva), a Malaysian investor, after the newspaper company was sold.
Bill Clough confirmed that his company last week settled tax bill with the General Tax Department.
Regarding the ongoing case of former senior staff suing the Post for wrongful dismissal, the court decision will not affect the company’s ability to remain in business.
“Whatever the final result is, the company faces no threat to its ability to continue its work,” the former chairman and publisher of the Post wrote in the statement.
