(Phnom Penh): Director of the General Department of Immigration Sok Phal and Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng presided over the meeting on the implementation of sub-decree no. 129 dated August 15, 2017 on the ‘cancellation and revoking of irregular documents used by foreigners living in Cambodia’ on 6 December 2017.
The Immigration Department’s director said that from 2015-2016, the number of immigrants increased to 190,000 to 200,000 persons and compared to 2002, there were approximately 70,000 immigrants only; the number of immigrants increased by 10,000 persons per year.
“The General Department of Immigration has found more than 73,397 immigrants living in Cambodia and according to sub-decree no. 129 dated August 15, 2017, all documents held by them are considered null and void,” Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng stated.
The Phnom Penh Governor added that 21,474 immigrants in Phnom Penh hold irregular documents – registration books, birth certificates, marriage certificates, passports, ID cards and other documents.
