(Phnom Penh): Tourism Minister Thorng Khon spoke in the morning of 10 January 2018 that Cambodia received 5.6 million international tourists in 2017. The number of tourists increased 11%.
The Minister said that 1.2 million Chinese tourists, ranking number 1, visited Cambodia. There are 15 airlines in our country (Cambodia owns 3 airlines and China owns 12 airlines) with scheduled flights (155 China-Cambodia flights per week) and with charter flights (50 flights per week) at all international airports in Cambodia.
In response to the increasing number of tourists, especially in Siem Reap province, the Royal Government has planned to construct a new airport in this province under a 55-year contract, worth an estimated $ 900 million.
The construction is set to begin this year. The new airport master plan will be signed by the Chinese Premier during his official state visit to Cambodia tomorrow.
