RE: Kem Sokha is not just a traitor, he even betrayed the United States
Dear Mr. Ambassador,
We read a statement of the U.S. Embassy to the Kingdom of Cambodia dated September 4, 2017 about the situation in Cambodia regarding law enforcement for Kem Sokha, a treacherous plotter trying to overthrow our legitimate government.
Once again, we would like to convey to Mr. Ambassador and the U.S. spokesperson to understand our national spirit that our people are committed to maintaining friendly relations between the peoples and the governments of all nations in fair and equitable manners, as well as respect for the independence and sovereignty of our respective countries. The Cambodian people are now as morally compliant as the American people, that is, we do not accept “interference”.
We would like to reveal to you that Kem Sokha not only betrayed Cambodians, but he even betrayed the Americans. If Kem Sokha was well-known for democratic values, he would be patient and know how to advocate political agenda through a peaceful manner towards elections and no ambition for a brutal color revolution to overthrow the legitimate government. Worse still, Kem Sokha has also betrayed the Americans, where he has exposed the contravening scheme, which is strategically and tactically wrong and contradicts the sacred democracy of the United States. So in this sense Kem Sokha is really a traitor.
We understand very well that the United States will not tolerate anyone who attempts to topple the U.S. government, and as the United States does not tolerate those who planned the 9/11 incidence. Therefore, for Kem Sokha’s treason, let the court act in accordance with the laws of the Kingdom of Cambodia. So, please the U.S. continues to support the righteous decision of the Cambodian people to prosecute their “traitors” legally, both independently and fairly.
We would like to emphasize that the legal measures against any illegal individuals and organizations in our jurisdiction is to strengthen the rule of law and to protect our happiness and prosperity for the people. This is the duty of each government, and even illegal acts before, during or after the election must also be responded with similar measures. Treason and democracy are completely different. Treason and power grabs through free and fair elections are quite different. So, please be part of our commitment to protect the sacred interests of our Cambodian people.
On this occasion, we would like to point out to our American friends that we understand the reasons for using the legal measures by the Royal Government of Cambodia and our judicial institutions to prosecute the traitor to prevent mischief that may bring our country into crisis and civil war, as the lessons learned from the past teach us. The Cambodian people remember the history of the 1970s very well. In the midst of the Vietnam War, our people were tragically killed by the bombing of more than 2.7 million tons of bombs that have caused more than 800,000 lives. In addition, the Sangkum Restr Niyum (Popular Socialist Community) regime and the respected Prince Norodom Sihanouk, nationally known as the “Father of Independence” and the “King Father”, were crushed by the coup, and transformed the unjustified monarchical regime. If there were no coup by Lon Nol and Prince Sisowath Sirik Matak, backed by the U.S. then, our beloved Cambodian homeland would not fall into the depths of the Killing Fields. Please U.S. friends understand the memories of the tragic history of our people.
We also acknowledge that the case of Kem Sokha’s betrayal also reminds Cambodians of the danger of the nation as Lon Nol had done to the nation and the people of Cambodia in the 1970s. We have been well aware of Americans’ democratic rhetoric to enter and intervene in some countries in the Middle East. Instead, the innocent people in those countries of the Middle East receive only fake democracy, chronic civil wars, and deep-seated divisions to this day. These are lessons that all of us need to work together to prevent such tragedy from happening again in Cambodia or anywhere in the world.
These historical legacies and lessons are sufficient for the Cambodian people to learn and make the decision to support the Royal Government in using legal measures against Kem Sokha as traitor rather than letting the color revolution and civil war once again happen on our lovely land of Angkor.
We also reiterate to American friends that Cambodia, an independent and sovereign state, which adopts “constitutional monarchy” with the motto “Nation, Religion, the King”, is quite clear of the democratic process that must follow the “rule of law”.
We would like to send a message to the U.S. Embassy once again that we have already decided that we continue to support the legitimate government that is capable of safeguarding peace and stability in order to continue developing our homeland in all fields for further progress. We are committed to protect our national sovereignty. We are protecting our Constitution. We are defending our King. We protect our legitimate government. We are committed to protecting Cambodia’s sacred peace. We do not allow blood of Cambodians to flow or Cambodians to be separated by the incitement by foreigners like the 1970s painful history. We do not allow it to resume on the territory of Cambodia!
The people of Cambodia need all the loyal friends who care for mutual interests— for both peoples or other nations. We also do not believe that our American friends change their position to support terrorists and traitors and overlook the benefits and peace of the world, including 16 million Cambodians. We are proud to announce to our friends that Cambodia is a land of hope! We believe in Cambodia! We know the diversity and our people need to maintain a lasting peace for greater economic and social development for our next generation. American friends should understand this strong faith and determination! American friends should respect the decisions of our people! And our American friends should continue to enjoy and congratulate with our Cambodian people who have supported the current and future Cambodian government led by the Cambodian People’s Party and the Cambodian people as “Founders of Peace and Development in Cambodia”.
We, the Cambodian People!
