(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of Interior issued a proclamation (Prakas) signed by Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng on April 10, 2017 to dismiss Chhean Pisith, deputy of Poipet International Border Checkpoint chief of police from the Department of Immigration after Mr. Pisith shot and injured his colleague this morning.
On April 9, 2017 Major Sem Makara ordered Nov Lyda and Keo Reaksa to go to the immigration office and coordinate with each other over the case of insulting which Mr. Lyda took passports to be stamped by Mr. Reaksa who called him a “slave,” according to a statement sent to General Department of Immigration.
Chhean Pisith drove Keo Reaksa to the immigration office with a gun and walked to Major Sem Makara and triggered it already. Mr. Pisith yelled and cursed Mr. Makara but Mr. Makara did not respond.
At that time, Mr. Makara left the room and looked for the immigration police chief officer for an intervention. However, when he walked back to the room, Mr Pisith shot him in the left shoulder, grazing his skin and causing his epaulet to fall to the floor, and then other people in the room took the gun from Mr. Pisith.
Chhean Pisith has accused the opposition activist Mang Puthy for hitting the officer with his car in December.
Mr. Pisith became a social media star in December when a video circulated online showed him collapsing in front of a barely moving car being driven by labor activist Mang Puthy.
Mr. Puthy was charged with aggravated intentional violence over the incident, while Mr. Pisith was supposedly rushed to the hospital in Thailand wearing a neck brace.
